A donation of $10,000 to the West Virginia State Police Safety Foundation has been made in memory of the late Trooper Larry Hacker by the American Association of State Troopers, Inc., WV Lodge No.8. The gift was given to acknowledge Hacker's accomplishments, as well as his service and dedication to law enforcement. Trooper Hacker suffered mortal wounds in the line of duty while responding to a dispute in the White Oak Community Apr. 8th. The driving force behind the fund is Sam Huff, former football star, who now lives in Virginia. Huff agreed to fly back to West Virginia to help with the fund-raising drive. Huff told the Parkersburg Sentinel he agreed to help because he always considered troopers to be role models, "I kind of wanted to be a state trooper," he told reporters. The goal for the foundation is to raise enough money to purchase bullet-proof vests and mobile radios for state troopers. In order to accomplish this task, the foundation must raise more than $3 million. |
